Coordinated cancer initiative

The Swedish Research Council and Forte have been tasked by the government with developing a coordinated strategic research initiative in the area of cancer, health and living conditions. The analysis will include, among other things, a mapping of the current state of knowledge and proposals for initiatives.

The mapping should focus on the areas highlighted in the national cancer strategy “Increased survival and improved quality of life: prevention and early diagnosis” (including screening), artificial intelligence and radiotherapy.

The Swedish Research Council is coordinating the assignment.

The agencies are to propose:

• research that can address the identified initiatives
• how knowledge can be systematically disseminated, and how the implementation and utilisation of research can be increased

The work should incorporate a gender equality perspective throughout and take into account that more people are living longer and remaining healthier at older ages.

The assignment includes gathering knowledge and experience from the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the National Board of Health and Welfare, both of which have been tasked with implementing measures in line with the national cancer strategy. Knowledge and experience from Vinnova, SBU and other relevant actors should also be included.

The assignment will be reported in March 2027.
