Children and young people

What are the living conditions of children and young people like and what influences different conditions and life courses during their childhood? How does society fulfill the rights of children and young people? Forte coordinates research on children and young people throughout their childhood – from newborn to young adult.

What research is conducted?

This area is interdisciplinary and includes studies on living conditions of children and adolescents. Particularly important areas are research on the health of children and adolescents and research on vulnerable children and adolescents.

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child provides guidance

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child has been incorporated into Swedish law since 2018 and establishes the equal value and rights of all children, protection against discrimination and the principle that the best interests of the child must be taken into account in all measures concerning children. Continuous development and improvement work is needed to ensure that the convention is complied with. This work needs to be based on scientifically based knowledge.
