Forte grants 67 million SEK for working life challenges
To promote a healthy working life, Forte is granting 67 million SEK to 14 projects for research within the National research programme on working life research.

The call for proposals, "Challenges in Working Life 2025," was for three-year research projects with a budget of up to 5 million SEK. The purpose of the grant is to give researchers the opportunity to carry out a clearly defined research project that provides both knowledge about work environment challenges and results that can be useful in practice.
Many of the applications focused on challenges related to how we can create a longer and more sustainable working life, as well as issues concerning the organizational and social work environment.
– There is a great commitment to contribute to changes in working life that are applicable in practice, says Raili Uibo, program manager for Forte's national work life program.
Gig work, circular economy, digital healthcare, sustainable reindeer herding
The applications that have been granted funding span both across "new" and established research questions. Among the new questions are work environment risks in gig work, circular economy, and digital healthcare.
– This reflects changes in working life and society's increased focus on digitalisation and sustainability, says Raili Uibo.
Other funded research projects address recurring challenges, such as how a sustainable professional life can be ensured for staff in healthcare and social care, health risks related to night work, and what kind of work environment measures can support a longer working life.

Program Manager, Forte
Raili Uibo wants to emphasize that Forte values inclusive research that reflects the entire society's challenges in work life.
– For example, one project addresses work-related health and safety risks in reindeer herding. Research that highlights the conditions for underrepresented groups aligns with Forte's vision to contribute to the scientific foundations of tomorrow's more equitable and socially sustainable society.
Contributing to the strategic research agenda
The granted funds contribute to challenge 3 in Forte's strategic research agenda:
- To achieve a health-promoting working life.
- Reducing the occurrence of intimidation, violence and harassment in the workplace.
- Decreasing the level of damaging physical burdens and chemical exposure in the working environment.
- Reducing psychosocial risks in the working environment.
- Ensuring the effective implementation of knowledge about the working environment.
